Buy Handmade this Holiday Season

I Took The Handmade Pledge!

Everyone everywhere should take the above pledge to combat impersonal, mass-produced, overpriced gifts made at low cost in another country by some murky corporation. Most people know that is where a lot of stores' products come from, but in the mid-December time crunch, most of us end up buying what is easily found.
The trick to avoiding the mall this year is to find out where to buy these elusive handmade gifts that can't be picked up just anywhere. So when a blog, like this one, mentions a craft show in the area, it's a golden announcement to be marked on your calender. It feels truly satisfying to buy a beautiful one-of-a-kind item from an artist sitting in front of you. This is the feeling of community, and the unique glow that comes from valuing someone else's creation. No one makes and sells handmade items who doesn't truly love their craft. I know what this sounds like, but this passion is the secret recipe in every handmade gift, and (along with the global-economic factors) why this pledge is worth keeping. So don't forget to come by the Astoria Craft Collective's Handmade Holiday at Waltz on December 2nd, especially if you're already in the area.

It's cold but come & get 'em while they're hot!

Scarves, long-sleeved tshirts, handbags, tote bags, and other fun accessories for the cute gals & ladies in your life! Available exclusively at,, and at the Astoria Craft Collective's HANDMADE HOLIDAY event at Waltz Astoria on December 2!

Crafty things on my summer calendar...

Hey all,
I've made it one of my goals to have a cheap, awesome summer making the most of the great outdoor/cheap/fabulous things the city has to offer.

Mondays from 2-3:30pm in Bryant Park- free knitting classes sponsored by Knit New York (a hip boutique in the Union Square area with great yarn and yummy treats). These classes are running from June 11 thru September 24. You must call the RSVP a spot, but it looks like all levels are welcome. I haven't made it yet, but it's definitely on my to-do list and I'd love some company.

More info on the Bryant Park website
Also, the Knit New York website

Also, on knitting... this is in my YouTube top five list.

The first thing you need to know is that ACC is having their first ever trunk sale on Saturday, July 21st. More details will be posted soon, so save the date and come visit us in Astoria!
